他對Rock n' Roll沒有興趣,卻因為“LL Cool J’的 ‘Mama Said Knock You Out’,愛上了Hip-Hop。

“Throw Your Hands Up!” for Hip-Hop – Freeman

As a Chinese teenager growing up in Australia, I was bored with the same old rock music by the age of 17. I then discovered R&B (Rhythm & Blues) which eventually bridged me into hip-hop. My first ‘taste’ of hip-hop was in 1992 with LL Cool J’s ‘Mama said knock you out’. I never looked back since then.

I didn’t have a bad or traumatic childhood, however parents were very traditional and ‘Chinese-style’ strict. Hip-hop allowed me to escape that pressure, and it actually helped me with my studies, strangely.

Having been to countless hip-hop concerts and also running a radio program in the past, this genre of music has become part of my life. Of course, I do also listen to other types of music and enjoy other good things in life.

Since coming back to Hong Kong, I’ve been trying to define what Hong Kong hip-hop is. Thankfully I’ve managed to meet a couple of good hip-hop souls and get to learn the underground scene. I have started writing lyrics too, with a bit of anger, and a bit of hope.

Thru Hip-hop, you get to see the good, the bad and the ugly.
